per motivi che alcuni di voi conoscono, ho dovuto ripassare l’inglese e … cosa meglio di un bel libro? (grazie mila!)
ho trovato in casa questo libretto di d. h. lawrence, pubblicato postumo; a parte la storia, che magari recensirò più avanti, mi ha colpito molto la biografia di dhl: il profeta della ribellione al pudore vittoriano davvero aveva una morale molto “moderna” … altro che le polemiche su “la separazione del maschio“!
“In 1907 … Lawrence [knew] Alice Dax, suffragette wife of an Eastwood chemist, with whom he had his first sexual experience.”
“… in the spring of 1912 … he also met Weekley’s wife, Frieda, who was the daughter of a German aristocrat, Baron von Richtofen. Within a few weeks, on 3 May 1912, they sailed together for Germany. In a poem composed shortly afterwards, Lawrence wrote:
You are the call and I am the answer,
You are the wish, and I am the fulfilment,
You are the night, and I the day
After spending some time in Germany and the Tyrol, Lawrence and Frieda walked across the Alps to Italy, settling at Gargnano on lake Garda in northern Italy.”
